It almost didn't happen. A good friend and her son and DIL were planning to stay at our house one night while en route to another friend's home. The second visit was cancelled and I told them to come and see us, anyway.
They did, arriving on a Friday night and at first things started off badly. Our sons couldn't leave work and come over until 6 or 7 p.m.. Our friends arrived at 2 and the grown up "kids" seemed at loose ends, just sitting around. My friend and I walked to the water. The "kids" didn't seem to want to do much.
However, when our two sons, their wives and one granddaughter arrived, the gathering got lively. We had crab cakes, red skin potato salad, and corn on the cob out on the deck. One DIL had a birthday so we had cupcakes and sang Happy Birthday, and gave her gifts. Granddaughter gave a gymnastics presentation on the front yard.
At times like this, I'm glad we still have our house and yard in the summertime. Winter - that's another story....
