New Years Resolutions for Seniors: Health, Part 2
4. So we do everything "right" and still our health is failing. We need to adapt. Last night we had dinner with friends. It was dark when we left (separate cars). He was driving even though he should not be driving because he has macular degeneration and cannot see well at night. She has 20-20 vision but is afraid to drive after she was told by her doctor not to drive quite some time ago (she had a fall and a subdural hematoma). Last year I had to pick her up and drive her to the hospital after he had a heart attack. That should have made them consider changes. I suggested a seniors driving course that they must have in our Florida area. Advice at best is ignored. Oh yes, said she good idea. Yeah, right.
Adaptation. Driving is basic to our independence. If we can't or won't drive we need to adapt. Lyft and Uber are available. Door to door service in minutes. Even public transportation if we live in an area that has rail, subway or bus service. Easier for me to download the Lyft app. I haven't ridden a bus in many year, and then it was a sightseeing bus on the Amalfi Coast (death defying).
